Thank You Mac

This quarantine my neighbor Mac
Gave me 3 gifts unrequited
Gum and cookies, plus a fishbowl
My grin spread wide, I couldn’t fight it
I dared not leave him empty-handed
But a thank you note seemed unexcited
I looked around, I searched the town
For a treat to make him feel delighted
Something sweet that spared the wheat
And then a thought inside ignited
Scanned the shelves and then i found these
gluten-free batch of brownies
I took them home and read the label
Grabbed a bowl and prepped the table
Water, egg, a bit of grease
Watch the batter rise like yeast
Pull the tray at the perfect time
And last but not least
before I gift the feast
Don’t forget to make it rhyme:

-----

The juicy fruit was a juicy loot
That brought me back to my childhood
Lighting firewood
Slapping tree trunk seats like drums
Sharing stories and some sticks of gum
What a favor to gift your neighbor
a sweet memory to chew on
And despite my lack of gratitude
You broke my quarantine solitude
With another

I was stenciling a giant fishbowl
When my only pencil at last had dulled
So I left my painted wall
And emerged into our sterile hall
To find a friendly pencil lender
I was floored even before I could knock on your door
A literal fish tank sat afore
There must be gods
for those odds
to hit
Or maybe the best gifts come
when you least expect it
And despite my lack of gratitude
You broke my quarantine solitude
With another

Oh those choco chip cookies, how they took me
By pleasant surprise
I was finishing my takeout cajun fries
And regretting not getting a milkshake
Just when I ached for something candied
You had baked the thing I fancied
A sweet dream to chew on
Well it looks like quarantine may never end
And solitude can always use a friend
So inspired by your many gifts
Here’s a hopeful mood lift
Might be a dinner’s encore
Or an afternoon snack
Enjoy my tardy, troubadour
Thank you to my neighbor Mac
